Family Roadtrip Up the Coast to San Francisco

SANFRAN-157Ten years ago, almost exactly ten years ago, the Anderson’s drove from San Diego to San Francisco. It was amazing. And we did it again this year! Only this time, we added my sister’s fiancé, Jordan. We quickly stopped in L.A., then went straight up the coast to San Simeon to see the beautiful Hearst Castle. We took a tour inside the “castle” as well as walked around the grounds for a bit. I’ve been to Hearst Castle 4 times now, and it is always a must-do. I tell everyone about it who is driving up the coast! After the Castle we had a few pit stops along Big Sur. I swear, this coastline is magical. You could stare at it for hours and never be bored with your view.

Once up the coast, we made it to San Francisco and actually stayed there for six days. We toured Alcatraz, saw the Golden Gate Bridge, ate clam chowder on the wharf, and all of the usual tourist stuff. My favorite spot though, was Muir Woods. My grandparents took me to Muir Woods when I was 9 years old, and it is as jaw dropping now as it was then as a little girl. These trees stop you in your tracks. They force you to look up, and just wonder. I love California, and all of it’s treasures. I know I’ll be doing this drive many more times in my life.

Katie and Jordan’s San Francisco Engagement

SANFRAN-20In case you missed it, MY SISTER IS GETTING MARRIED!! We can’t wait to welcome Jordan into our family, “officially”. Since he is the first to do so, my parents and I joked around that he might need some sort of “Anderson family initiation”. What better way than a family road trip!? Ten years ago we flew to San Diego and drove up the coast to San Francisco. We decided to do it again, only adding Jordan! No better way to get to know a family than shoving them in a car together for two days, right? The ride is so beautiful though, and has been named multiple times as one of the “must-d0” road trips across the globe. Once we made it to San Francisco, we wanted to have a mini photo shoot at the Golden Gate Bridge. Only problem was, once we got there, it was FREEZING! It is such a windy city, and sitting on top of the hill at the opening of the bay wasn’t as glamorous as we’d planned. We took a few snaps then got out of there. But they were troopers in the wind and cold. Thanks, guys! Love you both!

Katie and Jordan’s San Diego Engagement

2015-08-04_0023This past May, my mom decided to come down to New Orleans to meet me for a wedding I was photographing. While I was at our hotel waiting for her arrival, my sister kept texting me. “Is Mom there yet!? Call me as soon as she arrives.” It was a little strange that she was this eager to talk to us both, but at the time I didn’t really think anything of it. Finally after a few hours and a million texts, my mom arrived and Katie called us. “Are you both together? I have something to tell you!” She told us that her boyfriend, Jordan, had asked her to marry him! My sister was getting married!! My mom and I squealed with delight and we went out that night to celebrate in Katie and Jordan’s honor!

We already had a family vacation planned for this summer. My whole family (including Jordan) were going to start in San Diego and drive up the coast to San Francisco and visit for a week. While in San Diego, it was only natural that I took Katie and my future brother-in-law to the beaches for a photoshoot! I’m so honored to photograph them and can not WAIT for their wedding next year!!! I finally get a brother!
