Family Roadtrip Up the Coast to San Francisco

SANFRAN-157Ten years ago, almost exactly ten years ago, the Anderson’s drove from San Diego to San Francisco. It was amazing. And we did it again this year! Only this time, we added my sister’s fiancé, Jordan. We quickly stopped in L.A., then went straight up the coast to San Simeon to see the beautiful Hearst Castle. We took a tour inside the “castle” as well as walked around the grounds for a bit. I’ve been to Hearst Castle 4 times now, and it is always a must-do. I tell everyone about it who is driving up the coast! After the Castle we had a few pit stops along Big Sur. I swear, this coastline is magical. You could stare at it for hours and never be bored with your view.

Once up the coast, we made it to San Francisco and actually stayed there for six days. We toured Alcatraz, saw the Golden Gate Bridge, ate clam chowder on the wharf, and all of the usual tourist stuff. My favorite spot though, was Muir Woods. My grandparents took me to Muir Woods when I was 9 years old, and it is as jaw dropping now as it was then as a little girl. These trees stop you in your tracks. They force you to look up, and just wonder. I love California, and all of it’s treasures. I know I’ll be doing this drive many more times in my life.
